The Day I Drove Away From a “Perfect” Career (And Redefined What It Means to Feel Rich)

Take a breath with me for a second… because this might sound a little wild.

In February 2025, I drove away from a 15-year career as a Healthcare Analyst.

Recalculating the life-data that finally led me home, February 2025.
Recalculating the life-data that finally led me home, February 2025.

On paper, it was everything you’re supposed to want.

A Master’s degree, fully utilized.

A steady income.

Full-time remote work.

Every Friday off.

It was the kind of job people gently remind you to be grateful for.

And on the outside… I was.

But internally?

I felt a constant, quiet misalignment.

I was an Analyst whose own life-data wasn’t adding up.

Every week felt like bracing for the next deadline, the next demand, the next moment where my time wasn’t truly mine. I was trading my highest-energy years for a “predictable path”… and it was costing me the one thing I couldn’t earn back:

Headspace.

Not just time.

Not just money.

But the mental and emotional space to actually be with my four children.

The Myth of the “Perfect Plan”

I didn’t have a perfectly mapped-out exit strategy when I left.

What I had was something harder to justify—but impossible to ignore:

A quiet knowing.

I couldn’t keep managing my life like a spreadsheet.

Now, I want to be clear—this wasn’t reckless.

We had savings.

I had nearly two decades of investing experience.

And emotionally, I had reached a point where staying felt riskier than leaving.

So, I chose differently.

And here’s the part no one really talks about:

For a season… I made zero active income.

My old corporate self would have labeled that as failure.

But my soul?

It called it a return on investment.

The only ROI that ever truly mattered: Being present for every step, February, 2026.

What “Zero Income” Gave Me

We bought an RV.

I traded a steady paycheck for slow mornings, long drives, and the sound of my kids breathing beside me at night—stacked into bunks and beds that felt more like a nest than anything money could buy.

And for the first time in a long time…

I felt rich.

Not spreadsheet rich.

Not “net worth” rich.

But life rich.

The kind of rich that shows up as exhale.

As presence.

As laughter that isn’t rushed.

The kind of rich you can feel in your body.

The Irony No One Talks About

Here’s where the story takes a turn I didn’t expect.

During that season of “zero income,” something shifted.

Without the constant pressure of deadlines and deliverables, I finally had the one thing I had been missing for years:

Mental space.

And with that space, I started applying the investing skills I had spent years quietly building.

But this time, I wasn’t reacting.

I wasn’t making decisions from urgency or fear.

I was thinking clearly.

And in those months on the road…

I made more money than I had in a full year at my 9–5.

Not because I suddenly became someone new.

But because I finally had the headspace to be who I already was.

What I Discovered About Financial Freedom

That season redefined everything I thought I knew about money.

Because I realized:

Financial freedom isn’t just about how much you earn. It’s about how much space you have to think.

This is what I now call Financial Headspace.

And it changed the way I make decisions—about money, motherhood, and my life.

Financial Headspace is the intersection of:

  • Time ownership — how much of your day actually belongs to you

  • Mental bandwidth — your ability to think clearly instead of constantly react

  • Income flexibility — how dependent you are on a single source of money

When you have that?

You don’t just earn differently.

You choose differently.

From Managing My Life to Designing It

Somewhere along the road, I met another mom who had built a $250K digital business while homeschooling her kids.

A roadschooling playdate with Leveling Up with Courtney—living proof that you can build a $250K business without sacrificing slow mornings with your kids, June 2026.

The “Dreamer” in me lit up immediately.

But the “Strategist” in me knew something important:

I didn’t need to chase another model.

I needed to trust my own.

Wild Mama Rising.

I had a book to finish promoting—Wild Mama Rising.

I had proof to build in my own life first.

I had to slow down… to grow.

Now, as we build our round house in Joshua Tree, I’m no longer trying to optimize every hour of my day.

I’m building assets.

I’m creating rhythms.

I’m designing a life that supports both my ambition and my presence.

Less managing.

More designing.

What This Season Taught Me

If you’re standing at the edge of your own “this doesn’t feel right anymore” moment, here’s what I want you to know:

  • Space creates clarity

Your best decisions won’t come from pressure. They come from margin.

  • You can’t optimize your way into alignment

At some point, better systems stop working. You have to choose differently.

  • “Zero income” doesn’t mean zero value

Some seasons are building something you can’t measure yet.

  • Your nervous system is a financial strategy

The calmer you are, the clearer you think—and the more aligned your choices become.

A Simple Place to Start

Tonight, try this:

Instead of asking, “What did I get done today?”

Ask yourself:

“When did I feel the most spacious?”

That’s your data.

That’s your starting point.

A Reflection for You

If you’ve built a life that looks good on paper…but doesn’t feel good in your body…

You’re not alone.

And you’re not behind.

You may just be ready to stop managing your life—

and start designing it.

If This Resonates

If you’re in that in-between space—where your old life no longer fits, but your new one isn’t fully built yet—

That’s where I write from.

I share weekly-ish notes on:

  • Financial headspace

  • Motherhood and identity

  • Building income without losing yourself

  • And the real, behind-the-scenes moments no one talks about

Not expert advice.

Just honest reflections for the woman who’s ready to trust herself again.
